It’s nearly April, and it’s starting to get hot outside. If you’re like most people with a pool,
you’ve probably pulled the cover off to give everything a good clean, but this
year something’s off.
Oftentimes, the frequent winter weather variations in
temperature can wreak havoc on home swimming pools and years of abuse can leave
the lining in your pool in need a of a change.
At Adams Swimming Pool Inc., we thought we’d leave you with some TIPS to
tell if your vinyl liner pool needs repairs or a liner replacement this spring.
1.) The
Liner bed is coming off the track. Vinyl
liners are designed to tightly fit your pool’s design. Over time, the liner bead may pop out of the
track due to shrinking or stretching.
This can happen at the deck level or bottom level of your pool and often
is made evident by a protrusion or, in smaller instances, peeling in the pool’s
vinyl liner.
2.) Fading
color. Over time, the original color of
a liner will fade due the use of chlorine and other pool chemicals, and also
from the sun. Eventually, excessive
sun and chemicals remove the plasticizers, which give liners their resiliency,
leading to brittle and cracked vinyl.
3.) The liner tears and leaks.
Although unlikely with a new liner, aging liners do rip from time to
time. If you are adding more than one
inch of water to your pool per week, you probably have a leak. Leaks can washout supporting back fill behind
the walls, corrode the walls, and may wash away sand on the floor, creating
large sinkholes. While small leaks can
usually be patched with an underwater patch kit, larger tears may require liner
replacement.
